The king was executed in 1793 after this was the start of the Reign of Terror. The trial and execution of the king happend due to more of the moderate members losing their control to the Jacobins and the Sans-coulottes. The years 1793 and 1794 are known as the "Reign of Terror." During this peroid of time the revolutionary government had power over the government. They passed a number of very harsh laws to imtimidate and scare of anyone who disagreed with the radical Jascobins. The law of suspects, included anyone that was of a noble family or who had held office before the revolution. If you were unable to produce a signed certificate of citizenship would result in their immediate aresst and execution by guillotine.
The Revolutionist ordered the execution of 2,400 people in Paris by July 1794. Across France 30,000 people lost their lives. Marie Antionette was the first one to lose her life after Louis. Robespierre was the last victim of the guillotine in this time, and it ended the Reign of Terror. |
